General Mold Questions

What causes mold to grow?

Mold needs moisture to grow. Common causes include roof leaks, plumbing leaks, high humidity, condensation, flooding, poor ventilation, and foundation moisture.

Is mold dangerous?

Mold affects everyone differently. Some people experience allergy-like symptoms, respiratory irritation, headaches, or worsening asthma, while others have little reaction. If you have health concerns, talk with a doctor who specializes in mold.

Can I remove mold myself?

We generally do not recommend it. Disturbing mold without proper containment and HEPA filtration can spread spores throughout the home and make the problem worse. A professional setup keeps the spores contained while the mold is removed at the source.

Will mold come back after remediation?

If the underlying moisture issue is corrected, properly remediated mold should not return. Mold cannot grow without a moisture source.

Can mold grow behind walls?

Yes. Mold commonly grows behind drywall, under flooring, and in attics, crawlspaces, and other hidden areas where moisture is present.

Our Chemical-Free Process

Why is MoldPro chemical-free?

We believe mold should be physically removed, not simply sprayed with chemicals. Our process removes mold and its root using mechanical cleaning, HEPA filtration, and specialized equipment rather than relying on biocides.

Mold produces substances called mycotoxins. Rather than mixing these naturally occurring compounds with more chemicals, we remove the mold itself. Our focus is eliminating the source of the contamination instead of trying to treat it.

Do you just fog the house to get rid of mold?

No. Fogging on its own may suppress spores for a while, but it does not remove the actual mold growth or the mold root. We physically remove the mold first. We may finish a project with a non-toxic fogging step, but it supports the work rather than replacing it. Our focus is removing the contamination, not covering it up.

Do you guarantee your work?

Yes. We offer an 18-month transferable warranty on qualifying remediation projects, as long as there are no new water intrusions or moisture issues.

Will I need to leave my home during remediation?

Not always. Depending on the size and location of the project, parts of your home may be closed off by containments. For larger projects, we may recommend staying elsewhere for your own convenience.

How long does mold remediation take?

Most projects take anywhere from one day to several days, depending on the size of the affected area and the extent of the growth.

Inspections & Estimates

Why do you charge for inspections when other companies offer them free?

Many free inspections are really sales appointments. Ours is a professional evaluation by an experienced, certified inspector. Our goal is to find the source of the problem, explain what is happening, and give you real solutions, not just sell a remediation job.

Do I need mold testing?

Not every situation calls for laboratory testing. When mold is clearly visible, the priority is usually removing it. Testing is most useful when mold is suspected but not visible, or to document conditions before and after remediation. During your inspection, we will tell you honestly whether testing will give you useful information for your home.

Can you give an estimate without an inspection?

No. Every home is different. We perform our own inspection to accurately determine the extent of the mold and build a plan specific to your home.

Health & Safety

Can mold make you sick?

Some people are more sensitive to mold than others, and it affects everyone differently. Common symptoms may include allergy symptoms, coughing, congestion, sneezing, headaches, respiratory or skin irritation, and asthma flare-ups. Some people also report chronic fatigue, brain fog, digestive issues, joint pain, and anxiety.

If you have health concerns, talk with a doctor who specializes in mold.

Can pets be affected by mold?

Yes. Pets can experience similar symptoms to people, including respiratory irritation and allergies.

Prevention

How can I prevent mold from coming back?

A few habits go a long way:

  • Fix leaks promptly.
  • Keep indoor humidity below 50%.
  • Use bathroom and kitchen exhaust fans.
  • Make sure your attic and crawlspace are well ventilated.
  • Keep gutters and downspouts maintained.
  • Address any foundation drainage issues.
Should I run a dehumidifier?

Yes, especially in basements and crawlspaces. Controlling humidity is one of the best ways to prevent mold. We suggest setting a dehumidifier to around 40% relative humidity.

Insurance & Claims

Does homeowners insurance cover mold remediation?

Coverage varies by policy. Mold from a sudden, covered water loss may be covered, while mold from long-term moisture or deferred maintenance often is not. We recommend contacting your insurance carrier for details on your specific coverage.

Can you help with insurance documentation?

Yes. We can provide inspection reports, remediation reports, photos, and documentation that may help with your claim.

After the Job

How do I know the mold is gone?

Our goal is to return your home to a normal ecological condition. When post-remediation testing is included, we compare the indoor air to the outdoor air to verify the work was successful.

Will you repair drywall after remediation?

We replace drywall when it is included in the proposal. Drywall finishing, mudding, sanding, texturing, and painting are usually not included unless we state so specifically.

Do you clean up after the work is done?

Yes. We perform a thorough HEPA vacuuming and cleanup before removing containments, so the work area is left clean.

Still have a question?

If your question is not answered here, we are always happy to talk it through. No pressure, no sales pitch.

What Our Clients Say

★★★★★

I called and spoke with Rebekah, who was friendly and helpful. John was at my door four hours later, inspected, and gave great advice on what to do next, including recommendations outside the scope of mold remediation.

John and team are top-notch professionals. The care they took to protect our property and our health through containment zones was a testament to a company that cares for their clients like family.

Jason BakerGoogle review
★★★★★

I used a mold kit to test before and after their work. Before, we had 2 to 6 colonies throughout the house. Now I have 0 to 2. The proof is in the pudding.
